We’re not sure if you know this - to be fair, we didn’t either - but most wrapping paper is not recyclable. That seems crazy, right? But it’s true. And not only is it not recyclable, but it is also considered recycling contamination. This means that if you put it in the recycling, it actually ends up poisoning the rest of the recycling and it all has to go into the landfill. Terrible, right? Now, this, of course, does depend on which kind of wrapping paper exactly you are using, and where you live, but we just thought it would be a safe bet to keep it green this Christmas.
So what kind of wrapping paper CAN you use that is recyclable? Kraft paper! Usually in a raw color (brown or tan) and often available in white and black, it can still be wrapped with pretty ribbons or beautiful gift tags and made to look special this Christmas, while also keeping our planet at the top of the mind.
We’re rounded up some of our favorite kraft paper gift wrapping inspirations for you to keep in mind when getting your wrapping station set up, this holiday season.
Enjoy!
Not sure where to buy recyclable paper to get started? We found a link on Amazon for kraft paper in multiple colors. Enjoy!
