Even if you’re not a resident of California, you’d know what we mean when we say “California vibes”. It’s a favorite look for us and we’ve got some amazing inspiration photos to share with you!
What we love most about this style is that it is laid back, yet always looks pulled together. Even though many of the spaces feature natural and neutral colors and textures, there is always something elegant looking about them.
As you can see from some of these inspiration photos is that this style is really brought together through materials and texture. It’s not hard for a space to feel pulled together when it all pulls from the same neutral pool. However, it is hard for a space to feel rich, cozy, and inviting through just the use of colors. This is why this style tends to do texture so very well. Without it, these spaces would feel a little flat!
You might notice lots of natural warm woods, either a tan/caramel or black leather, sheepskins, rattan, cane and other textural elements that add to the space. These details don’t stand out in a flashy and bright way, but they do add depth and luxury to these spaces.
There is nothing too formal about these spaces, but don’t misunderstand - they are definitely carefully curated and styled. The California Cool style encourages people to really take on that treasure-hunt aspect of home decor, and find unique, natural, vintage pieces that fit their space! While we always think working with artisans is important, this is a really good style pairing for working with fiber artists, weavers, potters, wood workers - honestly, basically any kind of maker - it would fit right in!
Another big element to this look is textiles. Lots of chunky knits, wool rugs, sheepskin as we mentioned above and high-end and vintage linens. This is a great excuse to splurge on some new cushion covers and revamp your sofa! With Spring in bloom, this is a great style to admire as we head into the warmer months, and as you may be getting ready for a warm weather refresh!
Is this a style that you had heard about before? One you already have in your home? We’d love to hear what you think about this Look We Love!
