Hi Hannah! tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
Hi! I’m the designer and founder of Wolf & Moon. I design and make graphic, modern jewelry - I particularly love a statement earring! I grew up in the south of England, but have lived in London for 10 years since moving up for university; I studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths. I have a small team that work with me in my Hackney workshop where everything is handmade.
Have you always been an artist and how did you decide to make this your career?
I’ve always enjoyed making and designing things since I was a child. I started making jewelry when I was about 16 from all sorts of bits and bobs I could find. I was selling my pieces at markets on the weekend when I was at university, and when I graduated I decided to try and make a proper go of it.
Describe your style as an artist. What medium do you use?
I use mainly laser-cut wood, acrylic and brass. I mostly like working with shapes - geometric or more abstract - and colour is very important to me. Sometimes I like to make something a little more illustrated too.
Where do you find inspiration?
I love looking at all sorts of art and design - particularly interior design and architecture and abstract art.
What’s a typical workday look like for you? Tell us about your process.
I like to start late and finish late because I get the studio to myself after everyone goes home at 6pm. I will generally do all my admin tasks first and then designing in the afternoon/evening. I have a small team now who help me with production so when I make these days its usually sample making, experimenting or making custom pieces.
Who are some of your favorite artists? Musicians? People that inspire you?
Artists/Designers/Architects: Miro, Matisse, Aalto, Brancusi, Jean Arp, Xavier Corbero, Ricardo Bofill
Musicians/Bands: Neil Young, Khruangbin, Anderson Paak, Mulato Astatke, Bonobo
What are the next steps in your career?
I’d like to continue to grow my fantastic team, and hopefully move into designing other types of products too.
Where can we see your art?
You can find my jewelry at gallery/museum shops including Tate Britain, Tate Modern, V&A, Barbican and Southbank Centre. We also sell to lots of little boutiques.
