It’s the first few months of the new year and as we’ve been setting (and crushing!) our resolutions, we’re also thinking about trends and predicting what is going to come this year. We have some predictions - and if we’re honest, maybe some of these things are just on our “lust list” and we’re hoping to see it come to fruition!
Not all of these things are brand new to the design scene, but these are some of the trends, concepts and details that we are expecting to see MUCH more of this year! If nothing else, this will be a fun post to reflect on next year, to see if our predictions came true! We can reassess in 2020. Wow, 2020! Does that make anyone else feel REALLY old? OK, maybe that’s a different blog post! So, let’s jump right in. Here are some of our top trend predictions for the year ahead:
Statement Stone in the Kitchen
This trend has two parts. One, we predict more contrast countertops - for a while we’ve seen tonal kitchens - specifically white; white cabinets, white counter tops, white backsplashes. And don’t get us wrong - we love the look of a crisp white kitchen, but we’re excited to see some more contrast in the cook spaces. Here’s an example:
The other look of statement stone is one that combines open shelving, statement countertops and beautiful backsplashes together. We’re seeing (and loving!) stone alllll the way from countertop to wall. This is just best exampled with some images:
Statement Appliances
This is one that is just so fun. For a while the trend has sort of been to hide your appliances - we’ve seen built-ins and what not, but these are all about making a statement. We personally find these to be fun and timeless:
Warmer color palette’s - are we saying beige is back? Find out!
Bye, bye are the stark whites and greys and we’re seeing more and more warmer tones, and LOVING it. Maybe it’s the cooler, winter temperatures but there is something so warm and inviting about a space that embraces lots of texture and warmth. Now we’re not necessarily talking about warm yellows or oranges - but more so creams, off-whites and even….we said it, beige. A visual is always best when explaining these things, so we’ve got a couple for you:
The return of the tuft (specifically the Channel)
Now this one isn’t necessarily new on the scene, but our prediction is that there will be a LOT more of it, and some of it will be in more unexpected ways. We’ve seen some amazing channel tuft DIY’s and we expect that to continue into 2019. What we are super excited about, is seeing how retailers and designers take it to a new level. An example of that would be these amazing chairs from Anthropologie and this floor to ceiling eat-in area.
Oversized Art
This one is exciting, because oversized art makes such a fun statement. You might think that you need a supersized space to pull of this trend, but you definitely don’t. It can actually make a small space look even more elegant. Not sold on that? We’ll give you some proof:
So, that about wraps up our predicted trends for 2019! Was there a trend you were expecting to see but didn’t? Or something that you can’t wait to bring into your space? We’d love to hear all about it!
